«Coming out of the closet.»

«Coming out of the closet.»

And what is coming out of the closet ?

It is an expression used to designate the moment when people with a non- cisheteronormative gender identity and sexual orientation communicate their gender identity or sexual orientation or are visible publicly or with a certain group.

In reality, this action can be tremendously oppressive for many people because it perpetuates the idea that the normal thing is to be a cisheterosexual person and everything else must be communicated since it is never taken for granted.

No one is forced to come out of the closet, or to communicate their gender identity or sexual orientation if they do not wish to do so. For some people, doing so can be very liberating, but others, due to their life circumstances, choose not to. Any personal choice is perfect and no one should force us into any of them.
