Human sexual response and attraction (II)
What is the plateau?
It is the phase of the human sexual response where arousal levels are maintained over time (and this time can be very variable) but the orgasm has not been triggered. In this phase the genitals swell and acquire reddish tones due to the large amount of blood that reaches them. The nipples may become erect and the areolas may darken.
What is orgasm?
Orgasm is an individual and subjective process that occurs at the brain level when a maximum level of sexual tension is reached and whose origin is usually related to the clitoris, vagina and uterus, or the penis, prostate and seminal vesicles. Although, in reality, there are people who can experience orgasms without needing to stimulate their genitals, there are even people who experience orgasms while they sleep.
In men and people with a penis, in addition, orgasm is usually accompanied by ejaculation, which also sometimes occurs in women and people with a vulva.
Self-knowledge is a wonderful tool that can help you experience orgasm more easily. Now, orgasm should be the consequence of pleasurable sensations and very high sexual tension, but not an objective in itself, much less an obsession or an obligation. A sexual relationship without orgasm can be equally pleasurable.

What does the resolution phase consist of?
In this last phase of the human sexual response after orgasm, sexual tension disappears as well as the physiological changes that had occurred. In men and people with penises, in addition, a period of time known as the refractory period is experienced, in which another orgasm cannot be triggered. On the contrary, women and people with a vulva have a potential that allows them to have an orgasm again if an effective stimulus is applied.
