Sexual Health

Sexual health is fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples and families and requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, without coercion. , discrimination or violence.

Why STIs and not STDs ?

We use the term Sexually Transmitted Infections ( STI ) because they are transmitted by genital and/or anal contact through fluids or simply by skin-to-skin contact. But well-treated infections do not have to develop diseases ( STDs ). For example, HIV (virus) affects the immune system, but with adequate treatment, AIDS (disease) does not develop.

Many STIs do not show symptoms even if there is an infection and the infected person may look healthy and not know it. That is why it is very important to have periodic check-ups, especially if risky practices have been carried out, which are all those that include genital contact without barrier methods (penis condom, vulva condom or latex band) or fluid exchange.
