Affective responsibility and care

Affective responsibility and care.

Affective responsibility refers to the dynamics of respect and care for the feelings and emotions of others that occur within the framework of relationships and bonds. Being emotionally responsible with the people with whom we relate involves taking care of them, taking them into account, communicating our feelings and emotions, listening to theirs, reaching agreements, etc. It is important not to confuse emotional responsibility with maternalistic or paternalistic attitudes or to fall into overprotection since each person must assume their responsibilities.

For example, emotional responsibility does not imply having to remain linked to someone if you do not want to, just for the sake of not hurting that person’s feelings. Let us remember that self-love is the first of our loves and that we are also responsible for taking care of ourselves, as well as our needs, desires, limits and emotional health.
